WE’RE HAVING A BABY! HOW WE FOUND OUT + HOW WE TOLD OUR FAMILY

Garrett and I are SO excited to finally announce that we are pregnant! We feel so blessed and grateful that we are entering into this next chapter together. As each week goes by, our excitement grows more and more. We love this precious baby so much already.

HOW WE FOUND OUT

After about a week of Garrett asking me “have you started your period yet?” we started to think about taking a pregnancy test. All week I was trying to convince him (but mostly myself) that I wasn’t, but we both had a feeling. Garrett and I do everything together, so I knew when the time finally came to take one, I wanted us both to be there. I was so nervous after taking the test, I made Garrett look first. He looks at it, then at me with a confused look and asks “Yes, you’re pregnant or yes, you’re not?” I laughed, fully convinced he was joking and it was negative. I grabbed the test from his hands and to my surprise it said “YES”. I was speechless and started to cry! Garrett quickly realized “yes” means yes, you’re pregnant and grabbed me. We hugged for forever, both still speechless and crying. We ran to target to get more tests “just to make sure”- spoiler alert, the next 4 tests were all positive. We were so giddy and excited that day (we still so are)!!! That’s when the endless nights of wondering who baby Nelson will be began? Who will he or she look like? Wait, is baby a he or she?? How will we ever decide what to name baby? We are so excited for this journey together and all that it will entail. What a precious gift from above, thank you Jesus!!!

HOW WE TOLD OUR FAMILY

We kept this secret for about two weeks before telling our family. It was so hard to keep this a secret!!! We finally decided on how we would tell them and started to create our plan. We ordered bandanas for the dogs from Etsy that said “My parents are getting me a human!” The next Thursday, we invited my parents over for dinner and we couldn’t wait to share the news. Garrett and I were making eyes at each other the whole dinner trying to find the perfect time. After the meal, Garrett slipped upstairs and tied the bandanas around the dogs’ necks. I knew my mom would notice first and when she did she screamed! They were both speechless, but oh, so excited. It was the sweetest moment. We then filled them in on the past two weeks that we had kept a secret. We then invited my brother and his soon to be wife over to share the news. Kaitlyn quickly noticed the bandanas and screamed with excitement, while Blane stood there confused. We all laughed while he finally put the pieces together. Everyone was so excited. Next, we called Garrett’s mom. We sent her a picture of the dogs in their bandanas and waited of her reaction. She was so, so excited! Next, we facetimed his dad. He was shocked, but over the moon! Garrett’s brother, Chase was next. He couldn’t believe it, but was so excited and congratulated us. This baby is so loved already. We can’t wait to welcome baby to the family!!!
